Auction for fortune (speech made at the National English Speaking Championship)

I want to bid the highest in an auction. With the highest bid, I can turn my destiny into a prosperous future. But in order to make a bid, what do I need?... Not money, nor wealth. But talent, knowledge and creativity. I want all of you to bid for the fortune by bidding higher and higher with your ideas, innovations and inventions.

...This is the AUCTION FOR FORTUNE. An impetus for future development. The human mind is inherently lazy, but we act to the incentives. All the creations of people are reactions to the needs they meet. Without the incentive there would be nothing. Think about it.

Why socialism collapsed? Because it was defeated by the sheer egoism that human was born with. Why lottery winners turn lazy after their windfall of cash? Because they don’t have to sweat for money since they got plenty of it. And why are you all here? You want the outcome, you want the self improvement.
As we see, it is the incentive that pushes people forward.

Today, our students receive a stipend equals half the minimum wage of the workers. The authorities say it was good for stimulating their learning. But is an unearned cash an drive them to study? Well let’s see. At our university, we have an ATM on the first floor. And on the day of the cash arrival there is a long queue of students, standing patiently for money without thinking of the time they’re wasting. There is almost no space to get through them. After the decision to provide the stipend there was 2 more night clubs established near the university, which are now very popular among the youngsters. (a bit of an exaggeration :p)

Though the money we get is dependent on our GPA, most of us, read books to prepare for exams, most of us memorize only to get good grades from the teachers, we study without thinking. We study for being an ace student but not the creative one. But creativity is what lacks in a developing country the most. The students should be awarded with their real accomplishments, not grades which is a subjective evaluation of only the teacher.

But acting as the bidder, the young adults are thriving for themselves as well as their mother nation. This is the invisible hand of Adam Smith, this is the source of the “Wealth of Nations”. This is where one is for all and all is for one.
